Saving toads - climate guardians

HADDON WOOD TOAD PATROL

This is a short documentary about volunteers saving toads on a busy country road in Somerset. The toad population in the UK has declined by c. 68% since the 1970s. Running a toad patrol is one way in which locals can help protect their environment. Volunteer Paul tells us why he volunteers to spend nights in the cold and rain patrolling up and and down a fairly busy country road, helping toads get to the other side of the the road. 28 patrollers cover the 14 weekly shifts over a period of 8 weeks. This short doc was shot one evening in March on the road next to Haddon Wood just outside Castle Cary in Somerset.
